One of the selling points of open source software has always been that you could look at the code and make sure it does what is says it does. But then who could be bothered to read the source code to verify it was legit. Agents can do it for you now.
Open source software has long prided itself on code transparency—you can inspect the source and verify it does what it claims. In practice, though, almost no one has the time or patience to actually read through source code to check for hidden issues or malicious behavior. AI agents change that equation: they can now automatically analyze source code, spot anomalies, and verify that a library or tool behaves as advertised, giving developers confidence without requiring them to become code reviewers themselves.
